Have you ever thought about managing your energy with the precision and strategy of a CEO? Whether you're working in an office environment or running your household, you hold the most important title—Chief Energy Officer! Just like every CEO, your decisions will impact your path to living a thriving, balanced life.

There is no such thing as "work-life" balance. Everything that you engage in is a part of your "life." Your life is made up of many different arenas: career, family, health, friendships, hobbies, travel, volunteerism, etc. It's up to you to manage each arena in the best possible manner to live a life of high vitality, one filled with energy and joy.

Navigating the arenas of your life

1. Bring in the right people and resources to support you

How do you enjoy spending your energy? Outsource the areas that drain your energy and don't bring you joy. Outsourcing can include hiring a professional or asking a friend or family member for help.

2. Cut out the people and activities that drain your energy and contribute to burnout

Ask yourself:

  • What unhealthy habits are draining my energy?

  • Physical Energy: Am I drinking enough water, eating nutrient-dense foods, and integrating movement into my daily routine?

  • Emotional Energy: Are there any friends or colleagues who constantly bring you down? How do I spend less time engaging with these people? How do I set boundaries when I must engage with them?

  • Mental Energy: How much time am I spending on social media and watching TV? Can I replace this "lean back" time with activities that will refuel me?

  • Spiritual Energy: Am I spending enough time engaging in projects that fuel me? Projects that make me feel like I'm making a difference in the workplace, my community, and my family?

3. Schedule regular check-ins: test, learn, and evolve

  • Experiment regularly: Make one adjustment at a time, evaluate it, and decide to keep it or evolve it -- add in an activity that you think will fuel you or remove an activity or person who drains your energy. Remember to stay consistent. It can take a week, or a few weeks, to see the difference.

  • Daily: Engage in quick check-ins. Ask yourself: How is my energy level? How am I doing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? What one small adjustment can I make in this next moment to improve my well-being?

  • Weekly and Monthly: Evaluate any new habits and routines. Are they serving you? Reflect on what’s working and what’s not. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Where can you make adjustments?

  • Goal Setting and Tracking: Set realistic goals for each area of your life. Celebrate wins and recalibrate as needed.

Final Thoughts

Being the CEO of your life means taking charge, making strategic decisions, and ensuring you have the energy to truly enjoy the moments that matter. After all, life is a series of moments!

Protect your energy by setting boundaries. Remember, every "no" is a "yes" to something more meaningful.

Creating a life of high vitality is about creating a balanced, fulfilling life where you're thriving in each arena.

Step into the role of Chief Energy Officer with all the gusto of a CEO and lead your life with confidence and purpose.
