Optimize Your Day with Energy-Driven Schedules


We've all been there—overwhelmed by a to-do list that seems never-ending, convinced that better time management is the key to achieving our goals. But what if the issue isn't time at all? This realization came to me after a conversation with a friend who was struggling to make progress on her goals. She thought she had a time management problem, but in reality, it was an energy problem.

In today's fast-paced world, it's all too easy to let others' demands crowd out our own priorities, leaving us feeling perpetually behind. Just last week, how many times did your priorities get pushed aside to handle a request from a colleague? It's not always easy to focus on completing our "highlight" first thing in the morning and turn off distractions that pull us into reactive mode. For me, last Tuesday was drained by multi-tasking during a two-hour block of meetings, and on Wednesday, I got caught in the trap of responding to emails as soon as I heard the 'ding' on my phone.


By shifting our focus from merely managing time to mastering our energy, we can unlock a new level of productivity and fulfillment. Imagine a life where your energy, rather than being a constraint, becomes a limitless source to drive your ambitions forward.


Instead of structuring my day around rigid time blocks, I've embraced my natural daily rhythms, and it's been a game changer for me! Discovering my ultradian rhythm has helped me tailor my workday to maximize my energy levels. I start with a 90-minute focus block of work followed by a 20-minute recharge break, like taking a walk around the office. Later, I tackle a couple of calls and emails in another 90-minute session before recharging with lunch and a light educational break. As my energy dips in the afternoon, I switch to walking meetings and tasks that require less creativity, like emails and analytical work.


This routine has worked wonders for me, but remember, it's all about finding what fits best with your body's natural flow. Feel free to start here, then tweak it to suit your needs. It's been exciting for me to tune into my body and collaborate with it rather than against it. I hope you find this journey just as rewarding and enjoyable as I have!
