Transform Your Day with the Power of a Daily Highlight
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to feel like we're constantly playing catch-up, reacting to the demands of others, and crossing off endless to-do lists. But what if you could shift your focus and make each day truly meaningful? Inspired by the book "Make Time" by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky, I've adopted a habit that's transformed my life: choosing a "Daily Highlight."
Daily Highlight
A Daily Highlight is a key activity, accomplishment, or moment you want to be the best part of your day. It's about proactively managing your time to ensure each day includes something meaningful, rather than just reacting to the world's demands.
My Journey to Finding Fulfillment
Before adopting this technique, my days were all about crossing off every to-do item from my list. That strategy left me feeling exhausted and unfulfilled. I was constantly reacting to others' needs instead of accomplishing what made me feel successful.
Now, my Daily Highlight helps me proactively manage my time, ensuring each day includes something meaningful. It's a 60-90 minute block of time that has transformed how I experience each day.
How to Choose Your Daily Highlight
Urgency: What's absolutely pressing today? Identify tasks that are important, time-sensitive, and can be accomplished in one sitting.
Satisfaction: Which task will bring you the most satisfaction today? Tackle something you've been putting off for a sense of accomplishment.
Joy: What would bring you the most joy today? Sometimes, it’s worth deviating from the routine for sheer happiness.
It doesn't have to be perfect—just pick something. You can always choose differently tomorrow.
My Personal Routine
Personally, I like to knock out my Highlight before lunch. It sets a positive tone for the rest of the day, no matter what comes my way. The more I focus on what truly matters to me, the less reactive I am to the endless demands of others. It’s amazing how this little habit has made my life feel more fulfilled!
Take Action
It’s time to take action: tomorrow morning, identify your Daily Highlight and schedule time to accomplish it. Make this small but powerful commitment, and see how it transforms your days.
